People who work in hotels, what are some the scariest, unexplainable, and/or creepiest things that you have experienced while working?

（TheDinomanShow）Got into a lift from the top floor to head down. Lift stopped at 4th floor, door opened, saw people outside standing still, making no attempt to come in despite me being alone inside and there was room for them. The automatic lift door then closed and before it was completely shut, I heard someone outside said “Why is the lift so full of people?”. FML

顶层搭电梯下楼，电梯停在四楼，门开了，看到大家在门外站着不动，没有进来的意思，尽管电梯里只有我，他们站进来也有位置。电梯门自动关闭，门完全关上前，我听到电梯外有人说：“电梯里怎么这么多人呢？”卧了个大槽！（注：下面评论里有人提到了中文“四”和“死”谐音）

 

 

（Loco_Mojo）I’ve come to realize (through my 2 years as a night auditor) that the things that shake you the most are not the weird noises you hear or the overwhelming feelings of loneliness at 3 am. The stuff that really gets to you simply being things that your guests do.

（通过两年的酒店夜班前台的经历）我认识到最吓人的东西不是你听到的奇怪声响，也不是凌晨三点钟无所适从的孤独感。真正让你不舒服的事情是客人的所作所为。

 

There have been a few good incidents that have shaken me a bit over my tenure. An intoxicated man waving his gun around at 3 am, a woman having a schizophrenic breakdown in a room and having a violent dispute with herself, and a man wandering the halls talking to himself for hours on end.

我在职期间，恰好有几个事件吓到了我。凌晨三点，有个酩酊大醉的男人拿着枪挥来挥去；有个患有精神分裂症的女人闯入客房，与自己激烈地争吵起来；有个男人在大厅游荡着，自言自语了几个小时。

 

 

For the sake of the thread though, I can remember one that struck me as extremely odd. One night a few hours after I had arrived for my shift a guest kept coming down and aimlessly wandering around the lobby and breakfast area. He was doing extremely odd things like talking to himself and sitting down at a breakfast table only to stand up and switch chairs at the same table every 2-3 minutes. Every time I asked him if he needed help he would jerk a little and mumble that he didnt need anything.

为了这楼（的主题），我能想起有一件事，让我觉得极其古怪。有天晚上，在我换班后几小时，一位客人下楼，一直漫无目的地在大堂和早餐区游荡。做了非常奇怪的事儿，像是自言自语，坐在餐桌旁，每两到三分钟起身，然后换另一张椅子坐下。每次我问他是否需要帮助，他就会抽一下，嘟囔着不需要。

 

 

Well a few hours or so after he finally went to his room he came back down and said he had turned the heater on and it made him short of breath and needed me to call an ambulance. So even though I was confused I obliged. About a minute later the hotels fire alarms started to go off. The whole time the firemen where going up and down from his room they kept asking if he had anyone with him or if he was alone and I kept telling them that he was in fact alone and had no other guests in the room with him.

大概几小时后他终于回到房间，结果又折回来说他开了电暖，导致他喘不上气，要我叫救护车。尽管我一脸懵逼，还是照办了。又过了一分钟，旅馆的消防警钟响了，消防员全程围着他那间房跑上跑下，不断问有没有人和他在一起，是否只有他一人；我也一直跟他们解释就他一个人，房间里没别的客人。

 

After the firemen left and everything was back to “Normal” I went to go look in the mans room. He had rearranged all of the furniture and put the TV in the bathroom and had put his trashcan in the middle of the room and set it on fire. The thing that troubled me wasnt the fact hat the man intentionally set his room on fire and could have possibly burned the hotel down, it was the fact that even though he was alone he had small children’s clothes spread around the room.

消防员离开后，一切回归“正常”。我到那个人的房间里看看，他把所有家具乾坤大挪移，电视搬进了洗手间，垃圾桶摆在房间的正中间，还给点着了。真正困扰我的不是他在房间蓄意纵火，并且有可能烧毁整个酒店，而是尽管房间里只有他一个，小孩子的衣服被丢得到处都是。

 

 

 

 

（Army_of_Wombles）Not inexplicable, but scary at the time! Worked as a waiter in an old hotel in Scotland that was reputedly haunted. The restaurant, and the part with the bedrooms, were seperate buildings and all ground-floor (this is important). One afternoon we were expecting two elderly sisters to check in for a few nights – friends of the owner and regular guests, though being a new-ish member of staff I’d not met them yet. Well, one of the other waiters mentioned that they’d arrived, and would I go put a bottle of claret in their room while they were being helped out of the car?

无法解释倒不算，但是当时很吓人。我在苏格兰一家有年头的酒店做服务生，据说那里闹鬼。餐厅和住宿区分别在不同楼里，都在一层（划重点）。有天下午，我们在等老太太姐妹俩办理入住手续待上几晚，她们是老板的朋友，也是酒店常客了，虽然我是新来的还没见过她们。嗯，有位服务生说她们已经到了，问我能不能拿瓶红酒送过去，他们扶老太太下车。

 

 

No worries – picked a bottle, opened it, got two glasses and a tray, and nipped out the back of the restaurant, across the courtyard, past the two old ladies getting out of their car, and into the main building. Turned into the corridor leading to the bedrooms. Now, at this point I knew there was nobody else in the building – no other guests and only the owner and a couple of waiters were around between lunch and dinner service. I’d also been told the stories about the hotel ‘ghost’ – apparently an old woman in grey who’d hanged herself when it was a coaching inn. I was therefore perturbed to see a headless figure, in faded Victorian dress, shuffling away from me down the corridor in complete silence.

没问题——拣瓶酒，打开，再拿两只杯子，摆在托盘上，火速从餐厅后门离开，穿过院子。经过的时候两位老太太正在下车，我走进了主楼，拐进通往卧室的走廊。此时我知道这栋楼里是没人的——没别的客人，只有老板和为午餐晚餐做准备的几位服务生。我之前也听人说过酒店里的“阿飘”——一个穿着灰衣服上吊自杀的老太太，当时这里还是驿站式酒店（注：提供食宿，且给马车做补给）。所以当我看到一个无头人影，身着褪色的维多利亚时代裙子，沿走廊悄无声息地拖脚往远走时，我慌了。

To my credit, I didn’t actually drop the tray, but I did eventually emit a noise resembling a Harrier jump jet winding up, causing the figure to turn around…

自我表扬一下，托盘没砸，但最后确实发出了类似于鹞式升空的动静，导致那个东西转了过来……

 

 

One of the two old ladies, suffering with severe osteoperosis that caused her head to be below her shoulders, had been let in the side door ahead of me so she didn’t have to walk so far…felt like an idiot. Told her I’d tripped with the tray but saved it, not sure she believed me.

老太太二人组的其中一位患有骨骼石化症，头被压得低过了肩，为了让她少走几步路，从侧门进来的，所以走在我前面……宛如一个智障。告诉她我手拿托盘被绊了一下，但端住了，不肯定她信没信。

 

 

 

 

（voteforbetti31）Excuse me for not being an amazing storyteller but this is definitely a true story. Not me specifically but my mother used to work at a hotel in Washington DC back in the 90s as a housekeeper/maid since she needed money because she was a refugee from Vietnam. Even though she didn’t know much English at the time, she knew enough to get by at her job and all the other staff and hotel guests loved her because of how sweet she was. Because of this, anytime high profile guests (such as the Backstreet Boys) would stay at the hotel, the manager always sent my mom to clean the room since she was good at it.

不好意思我不是什么讲故事的好手，但这绝对是真事。说明确点不是我，是我妈妈，上世纪九十年代在华盛顿做房扫，因为她是从越南来的难民，需要钱。尽管当时她英语说不太来，工作方面要做什么却一清二楚，人又很好，别的员工还有酒店客人都很喜欢她。因此每次知名人士（比如后街男孩）入住酒店时，经理总是派妈妈打扫房间，因为她做得好。

 

 

Anyways, one day, a guest came, who will we refer to him as Mr. M because I don’t know his real name, and checked in to their most expensive suite. As usual, the manager told my mom to go take care of his room. As she got there, there was a “do not disturb” sign so she told the manager she would come back later. What was weird was that no one was ever allowed in his room. The man stayed there for over a month and not one time did he let a staff come in to clean.

有天一位客人来了，不知道他真名是什么，就用M先生指代，开了最贵的套间。和往常一样，经理派妈妈去打扫他的房间，她到了以后，门口挂着“请勿打扰”的牌子，然后她告诉经理晚点再过去。奇怪的是他不允许任何人进屋，住了一个月，从没让人进去清洁过。

 

 

However, he paid a lot and he gave a warm welcome every time he passed a staff member/housekeeper so no one payed him any attention. Then one day, people didn’t see him anymore so they assumed he checked out, even though the receptionist had no account of this. Since it had been so long since the room was cleaned and the “Do not disturb” sign wasn’t on the door anymore, the manager told my mom to go check it out and try to clean up what she could.

然而他花了大价钱，而且每次碰到员工房扫都会热情问候，所以也没人留意。直到有一天，大家再也没见过他，以为他退房了，尽管前台并没记录。因为上次清洁是很久之前，门上也没有“请勿打扰”牌子，经理让妈妈过去看看，尽力打扫干净。

 

 

As she got to the floor and unlocked the door to the room, a disturbing smell hit her. She couldn’t figure out what it was but she continued to survey the room, which was disgustingly messy. Her words were that, “it looked like someone had thrown a rave”, even though no other guests seemed to have ever gone into the room besides Mr. M. It had looked like Mr. M had deserted the place without telling anyone.

等她到了那层，打开房门后，一股难闻的味道袭来。她闻不出来是什么，接着查看房间，乱到作呕。她原话是这么说的：“看起来像是开了场狂野派对。”尽管除了M先生貌似没其他客人进来，看来他在没告诉任何人的情况下，放着不管了。

 

 

Anyways, my mom was still shocked by the smell so she tried to track it down. As she followed the smell, she could tell it was coming from the hotel room closet. When she opened the closet, there was nothing but a cardboard box on the ground from which the smell was resonating from. In the moment from being a housekeeper, my mother’s first instinct was to open the box to see what it was and clean/throw it out.

妈妈被这股味道熏得不轻，寻找气味来源，她判断是房间衣橱里传来的。打开橱门，地上只有一个纸箱，这就是味道源头。身为房扫，妈妈的第一直觉就是打开盒子，看看里面有什么，是清理干净还是扔出去。

 

 

When she opened the box, what she saw scarred her to this day. It was the rotting/decomposing head of a young woman chopped off. My mother immediately screamed and got out of there, where she fainted in the elevator. Once she woke up, cops were everywhere and the hotel was like a CSI scene. The manager told her that Mr. M wasn’t his real name and he used a fake credit card to check in. The head of the woman was identified to be like a call girl/prostitute type person. I don’t know much more and any nitty gritty details but i’m sure one can look it up on the internet for more information. Needless to say, my mom quit that day.

打开盒子后，所见之物让她时至今日心有余悸，那是一颗腐烂发臭的年轻女性头颅。妈妈即刻尖叫跑了出去，昏倒在电梯里。等她醒过来，满酒店的警察，就跟《犯罪现场调查》似的。经理说M先生用的不是真名，入住时也是假信用卡，女尸的身份是应召女郎那类人。再多的真相细节就不知道了，但你在网上肯定能搜到更多信息。不用说，妈妈当天就辞职了。
